Vacation from vacation?
August 3, 2017
Yes-serendipitously. This four-week sojourn to Scotland and France followed a rigorous (and likely a little too optimistic) schedule to get in all sorts of things. Program at Iona (so worth it!) and a couple of days in the Pyrenees, then back to Scotland's inner Hebrides.
I've been fortunate that I could catch up on rest after each foray. It was a long bus journey from Skye to the south of Kintyre then a two-hour ferry ride to Port Ellen, Islay. The geography doesn't allow a simple way to get from point A to B. And now you're tired out from all that.
Essentially, it is always good to have a no-stress, enjoyable end planned when on a long journey. I've learned a lot about the whiskey distilling process and tried some very excellent Scotch. Met people from Italy, Swtzerland, Denmark, Holland, and Connecticut whilst here. It's been fun. My host at the Excise House is Claire and she's from Ireland and quite gracious.
So it's off to Highland games Saturday with a friend I met on Iona. Then Quaker meeting in Glasgow Sunday. It's a well-rounded trip with a whirlwind finish. I'm sad to be saying goodbye to the islandsand, soon, Scotland. But I've got lots of pictures and resources and memories. (And go figure- the backyard here is just like home - see photo above).
Here's to seeing the light in the midst of darkness and finding blessing amid challenge.
